Air Force Senior Airman Below the Zone Promotions

Air Force Senior Airman Below the Zone PromotionsAir Force Senior Airman Below the Zone PromotionsTo provide an opportunity for exceptionally well qualified Airmen First Class (A1C) a one-time consideration for aufsteigen to Senior Airman (SrA) is given. Its effective for six months prior to the fixed fully qualified phase point. Selection opportunity is 15 percent of the total time-in-grade (TIG) and time-in-service (TIS) eligible population. Determining Eligibility According to the Air Force, the Installation Military Personnel Flight (MPF), Personnel Systems and Readiness Section, provides an automatic quarterly end of month (EOM) output product to the MPF, Career Enhancement Element, within the first 10 days of the first processing month (i.e., Jan, Apr, Jul, Oct). The roster identifies all A1Cs who meet or exceed the time-in-service (TIS) and time-in-grade (TIG) requirements, regardless of promotion ineligibility conditions (i.e., on the control roster, PAFSC skill level too low, undergoing Article 15 suspended reduction, etc.), and whose grade status reason (GSR) (DIN GAD) does leid equal code 5Q (previously considered for SrA BTZ). The output product produces an MPF alphabetical listing and a three-part unit listing. Part I identifies A1Cs with no quality indicators in their record.Part II lists questionable eligibles (individuals with quality indicators) who may not be qualified for BTZ promotion.Part III lists A1Cs who meet the TIG and TIS requirements but cannot be selected due to promotion ineligibility conditions listed in AFI 36-2502, Airman Promotion Program, Table 1.1. Verifying Eligibility Using the MPF listing, the commander/first sergeant verifies the eligibility of each individual to ensure they meet the TIG and TIS requirements and qualify control requirements. Enlisted Performance Report (EPR) Requirements EPRs are required for all A1Cs without an EPR who are promotion eligible for BTZ consideration. Commanders must review an a irmans EPR(s), Personal Information File (PIF), and discuss consideration with supervisors/rating chain prior to making a nominierung decision, to include if the airman will meet a unit or base selection process. A1Cs appearing on part III of the unit roster are ineligible for promotion according to AFI 36-2502, Table 1.1, and do not require DBH reports. Approved Decoration An approved decoration may be filed in an individuals Unit Personnel Record (UPRG) any time up until the date of the hauptplatine. Supplemental consideration will not be given because a decoration was not approved or placed in the record when the hauptplatine convened. Quotas Quotas are based on 15 percent of the total TIG and TIS eligible population, regardless of normal ineligibility conditions (remove students and World Class Athletes from the eligible population). The MPF determines quotas and obtains host wing commander approval (may delegate no lower than MPF Chief) before distribution to units. Lar ge units (7 or more eligibles) receive quotas and promote at unit level. Small units (6 or less eligibles) are combined into one pool of eligibles to form the central basemainboard (CBB) population. Quotas are computed and distributed as follows Units may not aggregate at the group level. Example Medical Groups are divided into four units, and each unit commander has promotion authority therefore, they should not be considered by the group, but as individual units, and cannot be added together to make a large unit.Units are notified if they are a large (7 or more eligible) or small unit (6 or less eligible) as soon as possible, but not later than the second week of the first processing month. Large Unit Selection Procedures Unless the host wing commander establishes written procedures, commanders of large units will establish written selection procedures that ensure the SrA BTZ program is fair, equitable, and provides timely promotion consideration. Once selections are made, la rge unit commanders underline the selectee(s) name, date, sign, and return the BTZ eligibility listing to the MPF not later than the last day of the selection month (i.e., Mar, Jun, Sep, Dec). Small Unit Selection Procedures The host wing commander will establish written BTZ selection procedures to include method of nominating, number of nominations, timetable to complete required actions, board composition, areas to be considered, scoring scale, announcing selections, and any other required actions necessary to ensure the SrA BTZ program is fair, equitable, and provides timely promotion consideration. The MPF, Career Enhancement Element, will ensure they have received all nomination packages from units with eligibles if a unit is not going to nominate an individual, ensure a negative reply is received. List of Approved Board Processes The following is a list of approved board processes Host wings that wish to use a separate process must request an exception to policy throug h their MAJCOM to HQ AFPC/DPPPWM to ensure fair, equitable, and timely consideration.Large units obtain their quota from the MPF and make a selection from the eligible airmen. Airmen not selected are nonselected, and this is considered their one-time consideration.Small units nominate to the CBB. The host wing commander determines the maximum number of individuals meeting the board from each unit. Each unit may submit up to the maximum number. The host wing commander convenes a MAJCOM only board. This board consists of all eligibles falling within the host wing commanders MAJCOM. All eligibles from units not within the host wing commanders MAJCOM (tenant units) will meet a separate CBB. This means the host wing commander will be convening two boards, and the quota for each board is based on the number of eligibles meeting that board.Units will consider all individuals meeting TIS and TIG requirements, even if they are TDY, on leave, PCA or have a report not later than the date (RNLT D) on or after the first day of the first processing month (i.e., Jan, Apr, Jul, and Oct) for that quarter selections. All individuals appearing on the eligibility listing must be considered. Alternates/first non-selectee of the CBB or large unit board are selected in the event someone selected prior is removed before the effective date due to an ineligibility condition (AFI 36-2502, Table 1.1) or infractions committed after selection. The use of past derogatory data not in effect on the date of the board or selection may be considered in the nomination process. However, it cannot be used as a reason for non-recommendation after an individual is selected. After selections are made, unit commanders provide a written promotion recommendation prior to the promotion effective date. It may be accomplished by adding the name(s) to the monthly promotion selectees listing or completing a separate memorandum. If an individual should have been considered during the current quarter board, and t he error is discovered before promotions are announced, large unit commanders will consider the airman and adjust selections accordingly (this does not apply to airmen who are gained, and it has been determined they were not considered by their losing base- see supplemental BTZ consideration). The CBB will reconvene to consider small unit eligibles and selections are adjusted accordingly. If discovered after selections are announced, supplemental promotion consideration procedures apply. Guidelines for BTZ Procedures The following procedures are guidelines and may help establish your BTZ procedures Nominees are required to physically appear before a board however, when a nominee is unable to appear, you may reconvene the same board at a later date, or as a last resort, conduct a records only board.Allow GSUs to use message and telefax to transmit nominations when time does not permit normal mailing. If selection folders are used, they will contain copies of all EPRs and decoratio n citations, the BTZ RIP, and letters (if letters to the board are authorized). Use the UPRG as an alternative to a BTZ selection folder. If the UPRG is used, place the letter (if authorized) on top of EPRs in Section II, inform board members and unit personnel that they are not authorized to access to any other part of the UPRG (i.e., Sections I, III, and IV), and do not deface the record jacket in any way (i.e., tape, staples, markings, etc.). Destroy or give selection folders to the individual when no longer needed. When assessing education levels, please take into consideration that depending on AFSC, training requirements, and work schedules, all A1Cs may not have the same opportunity to complete off-duty education. Boards are not required to use the full quota. The board report should contain a list of board members, board recorder, the order of merit (identifying total score and select/non-select status), and cutoff score. The report should be signed by the board president and board recorder and approved by the host wing commander unless the host wing commander is the board president, then only one signature is necessary. Supplemental BTZ Consideration Commanders may request supplemental BTZ consideration for individuals that should have been considered by a previous board, and the error is not discovered until after promotions are announced. After obtaining unit commanders recommendation, the MPF forwards fully documented supplemental requests to HQ AFPC/DPPPWM for consideration via email. It is imperative supplemental BTZ consideration is requested only when the unit commander concurs with consideration. Additionally, if the basis for the supplemental request is because the individual did not receive fair consideration (or was not considered at all at their last duty station), contact the losing unit and MPF before requesting supplemental consideration, and forward this information along with the supplemental request. It will assist HQ AFPC/DPPPWM in determining if supplemental BTZ consideration is appropriate. DPPPWM will respond with further instructions. If selected, members may apply for a retroactive change to their effective date, according to AFI 36-2502, para 1.13. It is the individuals, supervisors, and commanders responsibility to ensure an individual has been properly identified as eligible, obtains the correct study references, is nominated IAW program policies, and, most importantly, the data on the BTZ RIP is accurate and complete. Supplemental consideration will not be given for the following reasons Incorrect data reflected on the BTZ RIPDenied BTZ nomination due to incorrect data reflected on the BTZ output products or in the UPRGBTZ eligibility listing not returned to the MPF or individual was overlooked on the listingNomination package, additional EPR, or decoration not completed/turned in/approved in time to meet the board

Take short breaks to make learning a new skill easier

Take short breaks to make learning a new skill easierTake short breaks to make learning a new skill easierYou dont have to power through when learning something new, research says. Taking brief breaks might actually help absorb that skill better into your brain. The previously held idea was that our brains needed long breaks, such as a good nights sleep, to solidly form what we learned while acquiring a new skill. But after examining brain waves from healthy volunteers doing learning and memory experiments, some involving typing, at the NIH Clinical Center, the researchers involved in the study started to change their mind.Follow Ladders on FlipboardFollow Ladders magazines on Flipboard covering Happiness, Productivity, Job Satisfaction, Neuroscience, and moreI notlageiced that participants brain waves seemed to change much more during the rest periods than during the typing sessions, said Dr. Marlene Bnstrup, who led the study, in a release. This gave me the idea to look much more cl osely for when learning was actually happening. Was it during practice or rest?Productive restingResearchers discovered two important findings. First, the volunteers performance improved mostly during the short rests, not during the typing. The improvements made during the rest periods added to the overall improvements the volunteers made over the course of the day.Second, those improvements were much bigger than the ones seen after the ones the volunteers returned the next day to try again suggesting that the short breaks were as important as the practicing, and the full nights sleep theory not as important.Everyone thinks you need to practice, practice, practice when learning something new. Instead, we found that resting, early and often, may be just as critical to learning as practice, said Leonardo G. Cohen, M.D., Ph.D., senior investigator at NIHs National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke and a senior author of the paper published in the journal Current Biology.U ltimately, Dr. Cohen hopes the results of this study, further explored, will be used to help people in need who have lost the ability to do certain skills because of accident or illness. Our ultimate hope is that the results of our experiments will help patients recover from the paralyzing effects caused by strokes and other neurological injuries by informing the strategies they use to relearn lost skills. You might also enjoyNew neuroscience reveals 4 rituals that will make you happyStrangers know your social class in the first seven words you say, study finds10 lessons from Benjamin Franklins daily schedule that will double your productivityThe worst mistakes you can make in an interview, according to 12 CEOs10 habits of mentally strong people

H.R. 5050 addressed the needs of womenin geschftliches miteinander by giving women entrepreneurs recognition, resources, and by eliminating discriminatory lending practices by banks that favored male business owners. What is H.R. 5050 Womens Business Ownership Act? The Womens Business Ownership Act was passed in 1988 with the help of the National Association Women Business Owners (NAWBO). The Act was created to address the needs of women in business by giving women entrepreneurs better recognition, additional resources, and by eliminating discriminatory lending practices by banks that favored male business owners over female. The bill was signed into law by President Ronald Reagan. Key Legislative Changes From H.R. 5050 Womens Bu siness Ownership Act Many significant and positive changes were brought about in the enactment of H.R. 5050. Here are just a few highlights of some of the major changes that we can see had a direct, measurable impact on the number and success of women business owners in the United States Established the Womens Business Center program.H.R. 5050 required that the U.S. Census Bureau include C corporations when presenting data on women-owned firms. Prior to the inclusion of this data, statistics for women business owners were not accurate and diminished the vital contribution women were making in the business world.According to the NAWBO, by including women-owned C corporations, new data showed more than ersatzdarsteller the number of people employed by women-owned businesses and one and half times the dollars in revenue. H.R. 5050 eliminated all individual state laws that required women to have a male relative sign a business loan.H.R. 5050 required the creation of the National Womens Business Council (NWBC). This bi-partisan council consists of women entrepreneurs and womens organizations that advise the president, Congress, and the Small Business Association (SBA) on policy and program recommendations. How H.R. 5050 The Women Business Owners Act improved things for women in business In 1992, the number of women business owners was only 26%. By 2002, that number increased to 57%. Although more women choose to start their businesses with their own private finances, having equal access to business loans has enabled scores of women to start and grow their businesses without having a man co-sign In 1989, there were only four Womens Business Centers in the U.S. Today, there are more than 100 throughout the nation. Congress, however, voted to decrease funding to womens development centers and in 2009 no new centers are being funded. H.R. 5050 helped empower women with impressive women-owned business statistical results to prove it Although some of these legi slative changes may seem small, they have had a huge and dramatic impact on the number of women starting and successfully maintaining their own businesses. Over the past twenty years, since the implementation of H.R. 5050 The Women Business Owners Act has helped women to start and grow privately-held businessesatnearly twice the rate of all other businesses. Additionally, 10.4 mio women now own their own business a number that has not only increased, but thanks to H.R. 5050, women who own C corporations are also now being counted. According to a press release, NAWBO has been at the heart of this rising success for over 30 years. By connecting women business owners across all industries and business sizes, NAWBO continues to increase the influence of women entrepreneurs at the local level, in our nations broader business community, and around the globe.

Meet Kabir Seth Project Manager at Dow Jones

Meet Kabir Seth Project Manager at Dow Jones Dow Jones makes it clear for all employees - family comes first. Apply to Dow Jones http//bit.ly/dowjones-jobs One of the biggest challenges in almost all industries today is achieving gender parity. Gender diversity provides huge benefits in the workplace. pWhile some industries have made significant advancements in gender diversity, some industries lag further behind... and the construction industry is well-known for being in the latter category. If someone says, construction workers, youll likely picture a group of men in yellow hard hats analyzing an architects plans or laying bricks on top of a scaffold. And men at work signs only help to reinforce this image.pThis stereotype is rooted in reality. When was the last time you actually spotted a woman on a construction site? Or hired a female plumber or carpenter? Your answer is most likely never. In fact, the Bureau of Labor Statisticsreports that only 3.4% of the total of 8.3 1000000 construction employees are women.pBut the construction industry has a lot more to offer than steel-toed boots and hard hats, and it needs women to help advance the industry in this era of rapid change. Here are 5 reasons why women joining the workforce or looking to make a pivot should consider a career in construction.h21. Fuel Innovation/h2pNot only is diversity the socially and morally right thing to do, but it is also actually an excellent business strategy. pResearch presented in the Harvard Business Reviewshows that diverse teams develop more innovative ideas. This is further supported by a study conducted by Gallupon the performance of gender-diverse teams versus single-gender teams, which found that the difference in backgrounds and perspectives led to better business performance and problem-solving. h22. Capitalize on Demand/h2pThe construction industry is currently experiencing a labor shortage. The industry itself is booming and projected to be one of the fastest-growing industries, with total spending projected to exceed $1.45 trillion in 2023/a. However, most construction companies are unable to meet the rising demand. pAccording to the Associated General Contractors of America/a, more than 80% of contractors are experiencing difficulties filling hourly craft positions that represent the bulk of the construction workforce.pAnd demand isnt limited to individual contributor roles. Given the industry boom, there are a number of open stable and high-paying roles (any project managers out there?) waiting for the right candidateh23. Leadership Opportunities/h2pAccording to the Bureau of Labor Statistics/a, women compose only 7.7% of the total 1 million managerial positions in construction.br/pBut given the highly collaborative nature of construction work, more women in leadership roles would help drive innovation and enhance productivity.Furthermore, as a woman in construction in a leadership position, youd ha ve the unique opportunity to drive change for the industry and make it a more attractive option for other women.h24. High-Income Potential/h2pSalaries for many skilled positions in construction are on the rise, making a construction career a prime choice for women looking for a high-paying job,pThe 2018 Construction Craft Salary Surveyconducted by the National Center for Construction Education and Research revealed that salaries for many skilled craft areas are increasing. Project managers and project supervisors topped the list at $92,523 and $88,355, respectively. The next set of highest-paying jobs include those of combo welders ($71,067), instrumentation technicians ($70,080), pipe welders ($69,222), power line workers ($68,262) and industrial electricians ($67,269). Of the 32 categories of workers in the survey, 19 positions earned an average salary of $60,000 or higher.h25. Sense of accomplishment/h2p The construction industry can give employees a unique sense of achievement. Yes, the job is stressful and the work can be demanding, but nothing beats the feeling of being able to build something from the ground up. pHow many professionals in other industries can point at a school, a hospital, or a skyscraper and say I helped build that?pThe construction industry has a long way to go in combating gender bias and supporting women in the workforce, but given the current demand for workers, theres no better time to pick up a sledgehammer (figurative or literal) and smash the gender stereotypes plaguing the construction industry.

Technology in the office leads to isolation. Heres what you can do

Technology in the office leads to isolation. Here's what you can do Technology in the office leads to isolation. Here's what you can do Technology in the workplace has created the effect of isolation and loneliness, according to Dan Schawbel in his new book “Back to Human: How Great Leaders Create Connection In the Age of Isolation.”Schawbel , who is also research director at Future Workplace, aims  to help people become more effective leaders despite increasingly decentralized modern workplaces, which are over-reliant on tech, prioritizing long email-chains and Slack over FaceTime and water-cooler chat.Schawbel talked with Ladders about his book and the role technology has taken in the office. You talked to 100 leaders from companies like Facebook, Walmart, Nike, and Google for this book. What did you learn from them? They said that technology is a double-edged sword; it can be good or bad depending on how, when, or where you use it. It can help connect people, but at the same time, if it’s over-used or misused, it can isolate you from the very relationships you’re trying to build â€" to get people to collabor ate together, build connection, and accomplish great things. What specific data did you find about isolation at work?I did a study with Virgin Pulse with 2,000 managers and employees in 10 countries and found that introverts, men, and people in Germany â€" out of all the countries we studied â€" are more lonely. So it’s definitely affecting people more towards certain demographics than others. How does disconnection cost companies? One of the big themes in the book is remote work, because as you can imagine, the workplace is becoming increasingly decentralized. A third of the global workforce works remote, yet two-thirds disengage, are more lonely. Remote workers are less likely to stay at their company, and replacing each worker is upwards of $10,000. If we don’t have a socialized work environment, people are going to leave and it’s going to cost us more money. You can’t innovate and grow a company is you’re spending most of your time replacing workers. How can you make the e ffort to improve your work relationships, especially in an age where there’s less face-to-face communication?  One way leaders say they do it is empowering the remote worker â€" having them lead the meetings. Also social events, team-building activities and workcations. Workcations are when you go to an offsite outside or your city or town â€" or state, or country â€" and do some social thing, a party, a conference.Once you get outside your normal workday, people start to talk about more personal-related things. You can’t really establish a work friendship if you’re just talking about business. You wrote about making conscious decisions on whether to make a conversation email, face-to-face, or phone. Can you go into that more? The biggest thing we found that gets in the way of human connection is email. A study in the Harvard Business Review found that one face-to-face interaction is more successful than 34 emails exchanged back and forth. Any time I’m about to send an email an d I think they might not understand what I mean, I pick up the phone instead. If you’re trying to communicate something more emotional or complex with a coworker, face-to-face is more appropriate.A final thought?Let technology be a bridge, don’t let it be a barrier. Let it make you more human, don’t rely on it to solve all your problems â€" because it won’t.

The Key to Interview Success for College Students

The Key to Interview Success for College Students The Key to Interview Success for College Students There are many critical elements to a  successful job interview, from thorough preparation through effective presentation and diligent follow up. Perhaps the most important factor of all is to provide concrete evidence to employers that you possess the skills needed to succeed in that role.   The best way to do this is to tell stories, provide anecdotes, and give examples of how you have utilized those key skills or qualities to achieve success in past roles. Establish a Clear Sense of Direction Nothing will scare away interviewers of students or new college graduates faster than a candidate who fails to articulate a solid basis for their interest in the job.  Recruiters are aware that new college grads often change jobs frequently before employers get a return on their investment of recruiting, orientation, and training resources.  Therefore, its important that your interviewer understands your strong interest in obtaining and succeeding in this job. Be ready to cite specific aspects of the role and organization that appeal to you and reference relevant examples from your academic, activities, and job history that support your assertion. For example, if a job interests you because of its emphasis on event planning, mention how much you enjoyed orchestrating events for campus organizations.   Speak with alumni  working in your target sector about the details of their work and aspects that are attractive. This research will enable you to make comments such as I have spoken to several alumni in sales and they all mentioned the competitive thrill of closing deals. Or, I have enjoyed competing as an athlete and have been driven for success as a student.   Be prepared to answer questions such as Where do you see yourself five years from now?  Your answer should reflect a commitment to the initial job for which you are interviewing and an interest in advancement where relevant.     Also, meet with a counselor  to explore career goals if you are uncertain about your direction.   Assess the Job Requirements Analyze the primary requirements for your target job. What skills and qualities are critical for success, and which of these do you possess? Try to think of seven strengths that will enable you to excel in the job. Then ask yourself when and where you used those assets. For each asset, be prepared to describe the situation, the action you have taken that demonstrates that strength, and the results of your involvement. Whenever possible, include how others benefited from your involvement. Discuss Contributions and Improvements at Interview During your interview, its important discuss the ways you made a positive impact during your time at school. This indicates initiative, ambition, and willingness to improve college life for all students. In addition, you can demonstrate your critical-thinking and leadership skills by discussing sports incidents that you took part in resolving or challenging academic projects at which you excelled. Contributions on Campus College students can point to contributions to clubs or organizations on campus. Particularly compelling stories will relate how you initiated projects, revitalized stagnant student groups, or overcame challenges to resolve conflicts or mobilize others. When did you lead and what was the impact of your leadership? The athletic arena can be another important reference point for students. Consider how you might have inspired teammates, defused intra-squad squabbles, demonstrated discipline in conditioning, or overcame the adversity involved with injuries. Academic Projects Academic projects are another area for interview fodder. Consider the most challenging paper or project that you tackled. Also, think about the obstacles that you overcame in your process to achieve success. Group projects provide an opportunity to cite leadership skills and the ability to manage groups. Citing examples of successful academic projects will enable you to document presentation, research and writing skills, as well as  experience with presentation technology. Referencing relevant senior theses and independent study projects is also  an effective way to prove that you have related interests and a willingness to take on challenges.   Internships and Volunteering Further evidence of key assets can be found in stories you tell about your volunteer job and  internship  activities. Consider small successes where your contributions added value or were recognized by supervisors. Remember to relate to interviewers specifically what you did to engineer those successes. Job candidates can only go so far in making their case by articulating general statements about their skills during an interview. Make sure that you use this time wisely by providing specific examples of how you have applied your skills. Follow up Effectively Your actions after your interview  can have as much of an impact as what you say during your meeting.  Make sure you get the contact information from each person with whom you meet.  Soon after your interview,  send a message  reaffirming your interest, briefly summarizing why the job is an excellent fit, and thanking them for meeting with you. If you are really motivated to land the job, integrate a different statement for each interviewer message based on something that they shared.  You can mention that they enhanced your interest by something that they said about the organization or the job, or you can mention an asset of yours that will enable you to make a contribution in line with their priorities for the job. Practice Interview Techniques With Others Walking into the interview should not be the first time you discuss how your background, aspirations, and skills equip you to excel at the target job.  Meet with a counselor from the career office for a mock interview.  Practice answering typical interview questions  on your own.  Conducting  informational interviews  with college alumni, friends of the family, or local professionals can help you to feel comfortable discussing your background and goals.   Believe in Yourself Remember that above all else, know that you have the ability to do the job. When going on an interview, be confident in your skills and experience, even if you are just starting out in the work world. Your skills, education, and experience are valuable assets that can benefit a company.

9 Accounting Career Tips for Millennials in the Workplace

9 Accounting Career Tips for Millennials in the Workplace 9 Accounting Career Tips for Millennials in the Workplace Like many millennials in the workplace, born between 1977 and 1995, you may be looking to launch a career in finance and accounting. But how can you get hired and thrive in today̢۪s multigenerational workplace? These nine tips can help make it happen. 1. Choose your courses wisely If you̢۪re still in school, think about where you want finance jobs you may be suited for to take you. Then work with your adviser to find the courses that best position you for success in the accounting careers that interest you. 2. Get as much experience as you can Degrees are valuable, but everyone you are up against will have one, too. Explore accounting internship opportunities, as Belicia Cespedes did, to help you gain the skills and career lessons that will help you stand out among job applicants. Internships can be tough to come by when you̢۪ve been out of school for a while. If you̢۪re still a student or have recently graduated, now̢۪s the time to act. 3. Network, network, network Don't just stick to Facebook and LinkedIn. Millennials are known for social media prowess, but it̢۪s important to get out there and meet people in person who can help you throughout your accounting career. Go to professional conferences and events, and join professional associations. 4. Follow your passion Evaluate finance jobs beyond the salary they offer. What do you really like doing? Are you interested in solving mysteries? Forensic accounting might be a good field for you. Do you like condensing data so it makes sense? Consider specializing in data analysis. 5. Keep learning Another way to stand apart from other millennials is with finance and accounting certifications. These credentials show employers you̢۪re committed enough to go the extra mile to further your career. It can also result in a salary boost. 6. Stick around Millennials are known for job hopping to gain new experiences or skills, but employers appreciate loyalty. Once you̢۪ve found a position, rather than switching jobs successively, talk to managers about bolstering your skill set by taking on new responsibilities or through professional development opportunities. You don̢۪t have to change companies in order to change roles and mix things up. 7. Embrace teamwork Teamwork is a crucial aspect of finance jobs. Look at developing your collaboration skills with coworkers as a learning opportunity, especially when those coworkers are from a more senior generation. They̢۪ve been in the game a lot longer than you and can teach you new approaches to problem solving and critical thinking. Couple your recently acquired skills with their vast expertise, and you could be an unstoppable financial force. 8. Find a mentor Some abilities, such as people skills, are not easily taught in the classroom or through online courses. But these abilities are pivotal to your ability to interact with clients and with each other in the office. Mentoring opportunities are ideally suited to this kind of skills-and-knowledge transfer. Mentors can help you with skill development and mapping out your career path in general. 9. Work with a recruiter Recruiters can open up many doors to exciting accounting careers. Specialized recruiters know what jobs are out there and work with you to find the position and corporate culture that match your career aspirations and personality. WORK WITH US One last point: Throughout your accounting career, treat every member of the intergenerational workforce with respect. After all, the organization you̢۪re working for wouldn̢۪t be a success without the collective talents of everyone. By observing role models while adding your own skills and talents to the mix, you̢۪ll be setting a good example for future generations.

Navy Class A School Student Policies and Restrictions

Navy Class A School Student Policies and Restrictions Navy Class A School Student Policies and Restrictions After boot camp, Navy recruits attend technical training, usually called class A school. During technical training, there are restrictions on what recruits can and cannot do while attending Navy schools. These restrictions are divided into different phases. In short, technical training begins with numerous restrictions, and, as time goes on, restrictions are steadily lifted. These rules were laid out in  CNET Instruction 1540.20, Navy Military Training Policies Procedures. That policy has since been deprecated, but the rules are likely to be found or modified by the different Navy schools. Liberty Policies in Class A Schools A key component of the liberty policy must be an understanding of the equilibrium required between personal and professional life, and that liberty is dependent on all military and technical training requirements and work being completed. The objective of this policy is to provide students a phased and sequential transition from the highly restrictive recruit training environment  to one more like that which is experienced by Sailors in the Fleet. Training commands, which are located in the same regional area, will coordinate with one another to ensure a uniform policy for all students in their area. The following Phase Ladder of Privileges Liberty Policy is applicable to those students who are reporting to Navy schools directly from Recruit Training Command. Phase I- The first three weeks after recruit training: Wearing of civilian clothing is not authorized.On-base liberty is only during the training week.Consumption of alcoholic beverages is not authorized. All liberty will expire at 2200.All must complete command indoctrination prior to off-base liberty. Phase II- Personnel may be advanced to Phase II upon meeting the following conditions: Three weeks onboard under Phase ICompletion of NMT core curriculumWithin Navy physical fitness standardsSatisfactory uniform appearanceSatisfactory academic standingSatisfactory military performanceAt the discretion of the Commanding Officer, liberty during school nights will expire at a time to ensure six hours of continuous sleep in 24 hours. Phase III- Personnel may be advanced to Phase III upon meeting the following conditions: Four weeks in Phase IIWithin Navy physical fitness standardsSatisfactory uniform appearanceSatisfactory academic standingSatisfactory military performanceWill allow Sailors under NMT to experience liberty equivalent to that of staff The chain of command or a nonacademic review board may recommend Sailors be set back to a previous liberty phase for military infractions or unsatisfactory performance. Gender Integration and Berthing The appropriate interaction which occurs between men and women in the training command is very beneficial in preparing new Sailors to operate in the mixed-gender environment, which they will encounter aboard ship. Configuration and policy guidelines for berthing will have as their objective the preparation of every Sailor for gender-integrated living at the operational level, whether afloat, battalion, or squadron. Berthing to house men and women will be in the same building, emulating a shipboard environment whenever possible. Gender privacy and dignity is paramount. All berthing must be secure and well supervised. Tobacco Activities shall maintain an environment that supports smoking abstinence, discourages use of any tobacco products, and is in support of the Navy Tobacco Cessation Program.  Smoking may be restricted during certain phases of training. Civilian Clothes Commands will establish a civilian clothes standard that supports Navy Uniform Regulations and the highest standards of appearance. Sailors shall be trained on appropriate civilian attire. The policy for civilian attire should be consistent throughout the command (i.e., same for staff and students) and vigorously enforced. Uniform All students will be routinely inspected when in uniform, both formally and informally with a critical eye for proper wear and fit. Particular attention should be given to the jumper, skirt, and trouser lengths, and the fit of all outer garments. The ability to wear the neckerchief and necktie correctly, as well as the overall appearance and grooming of the individual, shall also be evaluated. The objective of this policy is to ensure students demonstrate and know the proper wear, care, and maintenance of all uniforms. Alcoholic Beverages Except as specifically authorized by SECNAVINST 1700.11C, the purchase, possession, and consumption of alcoholic beverages within any installation or vessel under naval jurisdiction are prohibited. Possession and consumption of alcoholic beverages or alcoholic beverage containers in A school berthing/lounge areas are hereby specifically prohibited. All personnel who may legally consume alcoholic beverages shall not do so within six hours of training or standing duty and must ensure they are FIT FOR DUTY at all appropriate times. Individuals who are drunk or incapacitated for duty because of prior consumption of alcoholic beverages violate Article 134, UCMJ.     Daily Routine The daily routine for student personnel is the basic tool to prepare students for the rigors of Navy life. To ensure Sailors are provided with sufficient time to complete all training requirements, supervisors must be completely familiar with the daily routine. The complete standard training workweek is extended because each daily evolution is a training event for new Sailors. NMT training requirements are designed to augment technical training requirements, neither extending time onboard nor superseding technical training requirements. Commands shall establish a daily routine that facilitates completion of all training requirements. Daily routines shall be published and enforced. Daily routines will include normal Navy routines including reveille, quarters for muster, inspection, and instruction, scheduled inspections, watch training, sweepers, taps, etc. Watch Standing The Navy places vast trust and responsibility in the hands of new recruits. Warfighting teams cannot function without them. Student watches shall be maintained when possible. The goal is to emulate the shipboard environment, teaching principles of responsibility, authority, and teamwork. Sailors must devote time to learning the skills that will enable them to qualify as watch standers.  All student personnel are eligible to be watch standers unless specifically excused by the Division Leading Chief Petty Officer.  Student personnel, while in a duty status, shall not leave the base confines without authorization of the Staff Duty Officer. Relief watches shall eat early meals and proceed directly to their post to relieve the watch. Physical Training All training commands shall schedule and complete a minimum of three one-hour periods per week of physical exercise. Students onboard greater than 20 weeks will have an official Physical Readiness Test conducted in accordance with OPNAVINST 6110.1.   Inspections Inspections are an important, fundamental part of the Navy. They are not merely a traditional or ceremonial drill, but fulfill a vital function, as the means of evaluating the efficiency, morale, and quality of discipline in a military unit.

Contacting a Hiring Manager on LinkedIn

Contacting a Hiring Manager on LinkedIn Contacting a Hiring Manager on LinkedIn Job seekers often wonder if its appropriate to contact the hiring manager on LinkedIn after they have applied for a job. There isnt a simple yes or no answer. In general, though, it wont hurt your application to send a quick Im very interested message. Should You Contact the Hiring Manager on LinkedIn? Whether its worth reaching out depends on the company, the hiring manager, and how you contact the individual. Especially important for competitive positions to which hundreds of applicants respond, being proactive and making a personal connection can help your application get noticed. On the flip side, it can annoy a hiring manager who prefers not to be contacted by applicants. Ultimately, unless the job posting says applications will only be considered through the employers website or applicant tracking system, theres little to be lost in sending a brief, polite LinkedIn message to the hiring manager noting your interest in the job. If an employer explicitly asks that applicants do not contact him or her beyond their official applications, do not message the employer on LinkedIn. If this happens to be the case, or if youre uncomfortable with the prospect of reaching out blindly, ask a colleague or collaborator who has contact with the company for an introduction or referral; this, as well, could provide an edge. 1:51 Watch Now: 8 LinkedIn Mistakes You Might Be Making Tips for Contacting a Hiring Manager on LinkedIn Contacting a hiring manager is  a simple thing to do. What to write and how to make the best impression is as easy as a few clear steps: Let the hiring manager know you have applied and reiterate your interest in the job.Mention one or two of your key qualifications to demonstrate why you are an ideal candidate for the position.Keep your message as specific and concise as possible. A brief message may get the hiring manager interested in your application without annoying him or her.Be sure to thoroughly edit your message before sending it. All of your contact with the hiring manager should be professional and polished; no message at all is better than a sloppily written one. When to Send a Message Depending on the company, it may take some time for your application to be processed. If its a small employer and youre sending your resume by email, its fine to follow up shortly after you have sent it. If its a large company, youll probably apply through an online applicant management system. In that case, wait until a day or so after you have put in your application so it will have a chance to get into the system and to the hiring manager. Dont worry if you dont hear back. Not everyone checks their LinkedIn messages frequently. Some people dont bother at all. If you dont get a response it doesnt mean youre not being considered for the job. Follow the Instructions Following the parameters provided by the hiring manager in applying for a position is important as well. Failing to submit all required materials will likely remove you from consideration. Throwing out applications from people who didnt do what was asked is an easy way to reduce the size of the applicant pool, so take the time to address the employers specific application requirements and meet them adequately. One hiring manager recently shared that he gets so many qualified applicants that if he misses a good one while screening resumes, it doesnt really matter because there are many more strong candidates from which to choose.
